Kiwanis Supports Feeding Program
The Kiwanis Club of Portsmouth was proud to provide a $500 donation to the Baseball Feeds the Needy program. Al Oliver (above, center), co-chair of our Community Services Committee, presented the check to Tim Martin (left) and Dean Schuler. Tim and Dean both coached local high school baseball for several years. The event was held in Tracy Park on January 30 and provided meals to several local residents in need.
Kiwanis Supports Cirque D’Art
Kiwanis was pleased to present a $200 donation to Cirque D’Art Theatre in December 2022. Cirque performers provided the entertainment for this year’s Kiwanis Christmas party. Pictured from left are Pegi Wilkes, Director, Alicia Bobst, Assistant Director, and Autumn Dowdy, Vice President for the Kiwanis Club of Portsmouth. Kiwanis Supports the Salvation Army Portsmouth Corps
The Kiwanis Club of Portsmouth rings the bells at Kroger in Portsmouth each year for the Salvation Army Portsmouth Corps and its Red Kettle campaign in early December. The club also provided a $500 donation to the Salvation Army in support of the great work it does in our community. Kiwanis Treasurer Todd Medley presented the donation to Major Misty Simco of the Salvation Army and President of our club. Kiwanis Supports CASA
The Kiwanis Club of Portsmouth was pleased to provide a $500 donation to the Scioto County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program. Pictured from left are Cortney Brumley, Executive Director of CASA; Todd Medley, Kiwanis Treasurer: and Hannah Hanks, Assistant Director of CASA.
CASA of Adams and Scioto County is is a multi-county, court-based agency with a non-profit arm that provides the services of Court Appointed Special Advocates to local children who have experienced abuse or neglect.
There are over 40 CASA volunteers serving children in Scioto County, but there are more than 300 children in foster care, so CASA is always accepting new applications for CASA volunteers.
Kiwanis Sponsors Color for Hope Suicide Awareness 5K
The Kiwanis Club of Portsmouth was proud to be a sponsor of the 6th Annual Color for Hope Suicide Awareness 5K Color Run/Walk that took place on Sept. 10 at Shawnee State University. On Sept. 7, 2022, Al Oliver (center), co-chair of our Community Services Committee, presented the donation to Corissa Boggs (left), Behavioral Health Manager at Shawnee Family Health Center, and Janie Haas (right), Marketing Coordinator for SFHC.
This event was hosted by Shawnee Family Health Center, the Scioto County Suicide Prevention Coalition, and Shawnee State University.
Proceeds benefited the Scioto County Suicide Prevention Coalition.
Hilltop Initiative Neighborhood Association
On July 27, 2022, Jay Hash, President of the Kiwanis Club of Portsmouth, presented a $300 donation to Jay Daehler, Secretary, and Kevin MacDonald, President. This donation was in sponsorship of the organization’s first annual Mound Park Games on August 13.
The association is currently raising money to install a new playground in Mound Park.
In July 2022, Al Oliver, Board Member for the Kiwanis Club of Portsmouth, presented a $500 donation to Marcia Harris, Executive Director and Program Director of Time Out for Me Inc. This organization is dedicated to positively impacting our youth by enhancing their self-esteem through developmental seminars and educational/cultural events. Recent guest speakers at Kiwanis were Julie Hutchinson and Jodi Conkel who provided us with information about the Scioto County Prosecutor’s Office's Special Victim’s Unit. Julie (left) is Chief Assistant and Special Victims Prosecutor for the Prosecutor's Office, and Jodi (right) is Special Victims Detective Sergeant for the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office. They are pictured with President-Elect Dan DeLotell.
The unit investigates mostly child victim crimes, but it also addresses crimes against elderly and other vulnerable populations such as handicapped individuals.
